Red, White, and Plaid

Jacket - Miss Selfridge // Sweater- Forever 21 (love this one!) // Jeans - 7FAM // Boots - Old Navy (old, similar here) // Hat - J.Crew // Scarf - Local shop // Purse - Coach (vintage, similar option here)

A quick hello from freezing cold Michigan!
(Took these pictures in literally two minutes because 10 degrees in November is just unacceptable. Bring back the forties, Mother Nature!)

This weekend consisted of watching a lot of cross country running (my little sister's team won Div. II Nationals, woohoo!),  drinking tons of coffee to stay warm, fan-girling over Catching Fire, and cleaning in preparation for my aunt and cousins' arrival today.

As much as I love and look forward to eating (and eating, and eating...) all the delicious food on Thanksgiving, my favorite part of the holiday is spending time with my family members who we don't get to see as often as we would like. My cousins, sisters, and I are all very close and it is a guarantee whenever we all get together we are in for a crazy-weird, but awesome time. Perhaps this year we will get The Nacho Band back together for a post-meal performance. And yes, The Nacho Band was a real thing. Our #1 single? Nacho Man (just switch out "nacho" for "macho" in The Macho Man song and you'll get the idea). You know you're jealous of how cool we are :)

Happy Tuesday! Safe travels this holiday!

'Ello, London!

London! This was our shortest visit on our trip so we barely even scratched the surface of this awesome city. Due to some technical mistakes on our end (aka: missing our train and almost getting stuck in Belgium), we only had 2 evenings and 1 day to look around. The first thing on our list? Finding Platform 9 3/4! We actually had to wait in line, or queue as the Brits say, for a good half hour to get our photo op with the cart. It was mostly younger children with their parents, so the workers taking the official pictures gave us a little bit extra time since we were dedicated and seemed to enjoy talking to someone their age haha :)

Once we were able get our pictures at King's Cross, we did all the main tour things that we could fit in our one day in London, which obviously included touring the gigantic Topshop flagship store! That thing is like the 8th wonder of the world I swear, it is amazing.

After hitting up all the main sights that our feet allowed (by this point in our trip, our feet were ready to fall off!) we met up with my good friend who was living there in the summer and went and got true British fish and chips and enjoyed some drinks at the cute pub Punch & Judy.

I was sad when it was our time to leave and fly back to the states since there was so much more to London than we could see in one day, but that just means I'll have to go back sometime soon :) I've already begun planning my next tour, whenever that may be!

TGIF!

All Black Everything

Sweater - J.Crew // Skort - Zara // Boots - Isabel Marant // Backpack - Coach // Shades - Ray-Ban

I guess you can say I was a little strange as a child: I used to climb the support pole in our basement and watch tv for hours while hanging up top, I wrote a letter to the Spice Girls asking them to come to me and my neighbor's sleepover, and if you asked me my favorite color when I was 3 years old I would have told you black and that it was the only marker I would use when drawing.

While the answer to that question quickly changed to pink, I've reverted to appreciating the hue and have slowly but surely started adding it in to my wardrobe. It truly is a color that works with everything and is flattering for everyone. Perhaps I wasn't weird so much as a child but a born-to-be aspiring New Yorker with fashion foresight. No, still weird? Ok. :)

Running was and is a big part of my life and my family's life. The majority of our family vacations the last 10 years have revolved around cross country and track meets.

How does this relate to a personal style post you ask? Well, my teammates and I were pretty competitive and wanted to be as fast as our abilities allowed, and would say that we wanted to be "cheetah fast", thus we bought every running related item in sight that had what looked to be cheetah print on it: ribbons, hair ties, socks, shorts, you name it we bought it.

This was when leopard was coming back as a popular print and what we took as cheetah was really leopard, but we weren't too technical about it :)

Those days of being The Cheetah Girls (yes, we really did call ourselves that....) are long gone, but my love for all things leopard/cheetah has not left, which is why I had to have this coat as soon as I saw it. Also, I'm excited to announce I will be running the Boston Marathon this spring (eeek!), so I may have to bust out the all cheetah look again. Maybe my Cheetah Girl days aren't behind me after all :)

Autumn Sunsets and Plaid

Jacket - Mango (old, similar here) // Sweater - J.Crew // Shirt - H&M (similar) // Pants - H&M (love these) // Shoes - no brand, Keds version here // Necklace - J.Crew (on sale!) // Purse - Milly (old, loving this bag)

I had my dad snap a few pictures of my outfit before my sister and I went out this evening (sorry for the slight bluriness..silly daylight savings time and work). It was my mom's turn to host the neighborhood ladies' monthly Bunco night, which means the rest of us had the choice to hide in our rooms for the entire evening or retreat. We chose the latter and down in a nearby coffee shop.

I won't lie, being at the coffee shop *almost* made me miss being in school, but only because I miss having a purpose for why I'm hanging out there for hours at a time. Nowadays I feel a little silly when I hang out at my local coffee shop when all I'm doing is scrolling through Pinterest and online window shopping, even though it doesn't stop me from doing just that :).

However, I must say it felt pretty good tonight overhearing the group of girls behind me diligently working on a presentation and paper knowing all I had on my agenda was look at pretty pictures of clothes, food, cities, and baby animals :)

Bonjour, Paris!

When my friend and I were planning our trip to Europe, we tried to go to places we both had never been because honestly, who knows how many opportunities we will have in our lives to go on a trip like this again. But there was one place that both of us had been but we knew we had to make another visit: Paris!

Since we had already seen the City of Light before, we kept it short to optimize time in other unseen cities but of course Paris was still amazing. We went to Laduree and ate lots of delicious macarons, took the train out to Versailles and saw the unbelievable gardens (side note: doesn't the picture of me running in the hedges remind you of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire during the Triwizard tournament?! Haha I'm such a nerd, I saw these and had to get a picture!) and farm, and had a picnic on the lawn in front of the Eiffel Tower with cheese, baguettes, and champagne while we watched it sparkle on the hour until midnight.

Funny story about the picnic: we stayed until midnight when the sparkling stopped and were getting ready to take the metro rail back to our hostel, but I needed to use the bathroom before leaving. For some reason, all the public bathrooms were closed so we stopped and got dessert at a restaurant nearby and used their facilities. We went to the subway and just missed a train, but another one came two minutes later. We had to change trains at another stop and while we are waiting for the next train, a subway worker comes out and tells us the trains are done for the night and we will have to find our way back on our own! By this time it is 1 AM and we are miles and miles away from where we stayed.

As we are trying to figure out what we are going to do, we remembered we had paid to use the city bikes for 24 hours and there were still a few hours left we could use them. We saw some bikes nearby, grabbed two, and aimlessly biked back in the direction we thought we needed to go. Somehow, we actually were able to make it back! Our hostel was by the Moulin Rouge and by this time of night there were what my mom calls "Ladies of the Night" hanging out on the street, and we got a lot of cat calls biking past there hahaha but we made it and I was never so relieved to lie down and go to sleep!

Also, I chose not to tell my parents about us being lost in Paris at night until after I made it home safely :) it was a little scary, but also one of my favorite memories of the trip!

Happy Wednesday :)

P.S. This picture below was a mistake of having my shutter speed too slow, but also one of my favorite pictures while in Paris. Doesn't it look like we were at a crazy, spectacular light show?
