Keeping it Casual

Jacket - H&M (old, love this similar one in white) // Shirt - Max Studio (similar) // Sweater - J.Crew // Pants - J.Crew // Shoes - New Balance // Backpack - Coach // Shades - Ray-Ban

I love dressing up in cute dresses and heels as much as the next girl (except maybe my sisters...they can't stand heels), but there is something to be said about a comfy, laid-back look. I've been loving the  sports luxe trend going on lately and when I spied these black New Balance runners, I knew I had to snatch them up.

Best. Purchase. Ever. These shoes are so comfortable, I never want to take them off. I plan on taking them on my Europe trip in May after learning my lesson last summer just how rough walking all day in unsupportive sandals can be on your feet.  And hopefully since it's trendier to wear sneakers around, I won't look like such a tourist...except my picture taking and shock and awe look on my face might give it away ;) Hey, at least they're not white (which I want as well :) )

Mint + Metallic

Sweater - Ann Taylor (old, love this sweater here) // Skirt - Zara (old, similar) // Purse - J.Crew (like this updated version!) // Heels - J.Crew // Shades - Ray-ban

Fashion websites are forecasting pastels, florals, and metallics to be on trend this spring, so naturally I had to figure out a way to rock them all at the same time. Go big or go home, right? :)

We're still waiting for spring weather here in The Mitten, as you can see by the snow and brownness in my pics, blah. I guess wearing spring colors and florals will have to do for now until the flowers bloom and everything gets pretty again!

Black Out

 Blazer - H&M (similar) // Shirt - Forever 21 (similar) // Pants - Paige Denim // Shoes - Tibi (old, cute alternative here) // Bag - ZAC Zac Posen // Shades - Ray-Ban

Happy Friday everyone!! This week has been tough work wise; all I do is sit at a computer for 10+ hours, but then when I get back to my place all I want to do is sit and do nothing. With Boston Marathon exactly one month away, I need to be making sure I get my butt out the door and run!

I went back home the other night after a long day of work since my sister and roommate were not around (they're nurses and we all work completely different schedules..sometimes we don't see each other for days!). While I was there I was able to take advantage of their availability to snap some pics for Running on Coffee, eat a good home cooked meal, talk outer space and physics with my dad, and run around their neighborhood.

With all the snow we've had the past few months I've mostly stuck to treadmill running, and let me tell you, my legs were in for a rude awakening on that little jaunt. Holy hills, Batman! I may need to start running there every day leading up to Boston...Heartbreak Hill will seem like a bump in the road after training there :)

Happy Vernal Equinox aka SPRING!!!

Wishlist Wednesday

Sweater - Madewell // Shirt - Sincerely Jules // iPhone Case - Marc by Marc Jacobs // Purse // Rag & Bone // Watch - Marc by Marc Jacobs // Heels - Saint Laurent // Pants - Adriano Goldschmied

Work has been extremely crazy as of late. We went from having absolutely no overtime to "try and work 11-12 hrs/day if possible. Oh you aren't doing anything this weekend? You should come in and work on some files!" Talk about your polar opposites!

It's probably not healthy for my wallet, but I always imagine all of these OT hours as a form of currency...1 hr equals a nice meal, while 5 hours equals that dress I've been keeping my eye on. These are the items currently sitting in my imaginary shopping cart. A girl can dream, right? :)

Happy last day of winter! We made it!

Irish Eyes

(Images 1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6 // 7)

Top o' the mornin' to ye, and happy St. Patrick's Day! A day in celebration of the patron saint who chased all the snakes from Ireland by drinking in a Guinness (or two or three..) in his honor, or a Shamrock Shake if that's more of your thing ;)

This year I'm feeling even more love for this Irish Catholic holiday because it is a reminder of how quickly my trip to Ireland is approaching.

Yes, you read that correctly: I'm going to Europe again this spring!
*eeeeeek!*

After the coolest vacation ever (you can read about it here, here, here, and here) , I did not expect to be taking any more big trips in the near future. But when a close friend approached me about doing another similar kind of adventure, I just could not turn down another opportunity to romp around Europe.

Our big destination is Ireland, but we will also be spending time in London, Amsterdam, and Paris. Traveling and seeing the world is a huge passion of mine, I am still pinching myself that this is happening again and so soon after the last trip. Now to remember to wear some green today so no one else pinches me :)

Happy St. Patty's Day!

Buffalo & Baubles

Coat - J.Crew (puffer vest alternative here) // Vest - J.Crew (old, similar here) // Shirt - Vero Moda // Jeans - Rag & Bone // Shoes - J.Crew (on sale) // Bracelet - J.Crew (on sale) // Necklace - J.Crew // Shades - Prada // Purse - ZAC Zac Posen

You know the universe is working in your favor when the weekend has beautiful weather and you have no plans. Okay, I had to go into the office for a few hours and work, but other than that I had nothing stopping me from doing whatever I wanted!

First thing on the list: wake up naturally with no alarm clock scaring me from my slumber. How great of a feeling is that?! Second, enjoy a delicious coconut milk latte before antique shopping with my sister. We found a cute table for our apartment that I am dying to paint yellow :)

Hopefully next weekend can provide the same type of relaxation so we can find some chairs for said table! Oh and minus the few hours of work, that would be great :)

What to Pack: Festival Season

Shorts - Hendrix Bandits // Round Sunnies - Topshop // Heart Sunnies - Wildfox Couture // Crop Top - American Eagle // Ankle Booties - Stuart Weitzman // Backpack - Miss Selfridge // Fanny Pack - Free People // Runners - New Balance

With SXSW currently underway in Austin, music festival season has officially begun! Normally this would just make me sad since it meant the time of year when I sit at my desk looking through Facebook pictures of friends having a blast at Lollapalooza...but not this time! I recently bought a pass for Firefly Music Festival and am giddy with excitement for four days of camping out and listening to unbelievable artists.

Due to my lack of festival attending, my closet is lacking a bit in the free spirit, hippie wear that seems uniform for these events. By scouring through festival fashion on Pinterest for inspiration and the current trends, I've determined the essential items needed for the days of music, sun, and fun:

1. Crop tops
Preferably floral patterned or paying homage to a favorite band of yours

2. Cut-off shorts
The perfect way to recycle those jeans you no longer wear but can't seem to throw out

3. Sunglasses
The quirkier and/or rounder the better

4. Backpack or Fanny Pack
The fanny pack is back whether you like it or not, might as well go all out with a fringed version!

5. Ankle booties
Good for wearing in those fields when dancing to the music and kicking up the dirt and dust

6. Runners (the cute name for sneakers)
For when your feet are tired and can't handle the ankle booties anymore

What items will you be rocking at your next music festival? Will you be following the runway's example and wearing sneakers/runners with everything this spring? Or should gym shoes only be worn at the gym and festival wear at music fests? I'd love to hear your thoughts on these trends! :)

Happy T - 7 Days until Spring!

Earth Tones & Warm Weather

Jacket - Joie (old, want this floral version) // Top - Ann Taylor // Jeans - Forever 21 // Boots - Tibi (on major sale!) // Purse - ZAC Zac Posen (also here) // Necklace - J.Crew (similar) // Shades - Ray-Ban // Watch - O clock

You guys. Today was unbelievable: we hit temperatures above freezing! In fact, we made it all the way to 50 degrees! *ahhhh* But for real, this is a huge deal. You wouldn't believe the number of people that came out of the woodwork to enjoy this nice break in the weather, I think I saw over 25 people running during my 15 minute commute home.

As soon as I made it home I knew I had to do an outfit post, sans winter coat.
Typically I'm a colorful person when it comes to my wardrobe (I'm known at work for wearing lots of colored pants and obnoxious bright neon sweaters), but lately I've been embracing a more neutral, earthy palette. This may be influenced by my new bag pictured above :) It goes great with all colors, but I think it makes its biggest statement with natural hues.

What colors do you tend to wear most? Do you lean towards the classic black/white combo or is your closet as colorful as a rainbow?

Pretty in Pastels

Pretty in Pastels

Clockwise from top left:
Earrings - Marc by Marc Jacobs // Necklace - Zara // Heels - Zara //  Jacket - Pull&Bear // Coat - Zara // Top - Joa // Purse - Rebecca Minkoff // Heels - Alexander Wang // Heels - Alexander Wang // Heels - Zara // Purse - Loeffler Randall // Purse - ASOS // Shirt - TOPSHOP

Wow, it's been a long time since I've last updated Running on Coffee!
My blog went into hibernation once winter hit, but now it is having a spring awakening! And what better way to kick off its revival than with some pretty spring colors :)

This spring I am feeling all things pink, pastel, and girly! It is still cold and snowy in Michigan so it might be a while before I can pull off some of these pieces (aka open toed shoes), but every degree the temperature rises the more excited I get to work them into my wardrobe. Which judging by the winter we're having may not be until June! ;)

TGIF! It's good to be back :)
