Daily Look 1.15.19

Shirt: J.Crew // Sweater: Madewell // Jeans: Madewell // Coat: ASOS // Shoes: J.Crew // Earrings: J.Crew Factory

You know you've found a staple outfit when you've worn the exact same look three times in a week!

I've been reading the book "Lessons from Madame Chic: 20 Stylish Secrets I Learned While Living in Paris" by Jennifer L. Scott, where the author talks about her host family living with a 10-piece wardrobe. She also goes on to talk about creating this kind of capsule wardrobe by defining your true style to help guide you with what you should keep, add, and remove from your closet.

Taking her advice of giving your style a fun label rather than something generic like bohemian or preppy, I settled on my current style being labeled as casual chic. While I love attending events where I get to dress up in really feminine dresses and skirts, that isn't the norm for me. As a person who works from home, I've found my daily outfits are more simple with classic silhouettes paired with accessories to add a bit of flair.

Having a label for my style also helps me when shopping for new items: does this shirt fit within my casual chic style, or is it a cute, eccentric top I like but will not actually wear? While this is still new to me, I feel like it will really help me make thoughtful purchases and may actually help keep my spending down!

Burgundy + Leopard

Sweater - J.Crew (similar) // Skirt - Urban Outfitters (similar here and here) // Boots - Stuart Weitzman // Purse - ZAC Zac Posen // Shades - Ray-ban

Well well well, it's been quite some time since I posted or even looked at my own blog. It's something I've thought about often but didn't have the inspiration or motivation to move forward with actively posting. Call it blogger's block if you will, but whenever I thought of something that might be potential blog material, there was this voice in the back of my mind saying "no, that's not good enough". So there it sat in internet oblivion, collecting electronic dust.

And then fall showed up.

There are many things I love about living in Michigan, with fall being near the top of my list. The clear blue skies, the changing leaves, the crisp air. It was this past weekend on a particularly beautiful day where I finally felt inspired again. For those of you who do not experience a Midwest fall, believe me when I say the air is different this time of year, and you can practically feel the change blowing past you. Whenever this happens I get this feeling of excitement and anticipation inside me, for unknown things to come. It's somewhat unexplainable but there truly is this buzzing energy that cannot be ignored and it was this that brought me out of my blogging rut.

It'll probably be baby steps getting back into the routine of posting, but I can't wait to get into the swing of things and channel my inner creativity into something. So hello, Internet friends. It's lovely to see you again :)

XOXO

Buffalo & Baubles

Coat - J.Crew (puffer vest alternative here) // Vest - J.Crew (old, similar here) // Shirt - Vero Moda // Jeans - Rag & Bone // Shoes - J.Crew (on sale) // Bracelet - J.Crew (on sale) // Necklace - J.Crew // Shades - Prada // Purse - ZAC Zac Posen

You know the universe is working in your favor when the weekend has beautiful weather and you have no plans. Okay, I had to go into the office for a few hours and work, but other than that I had nothing stopping me from doing whatever I wanted!

First thing on the list: wake up naturally with no alarm clock scaring me from my slumber. How great of a feeling is that?! Second, enjoy a delicious coconut milk latte before antique shopping with my sister. We found a cute table for our apartment that I am dying to paint yellow :)

Hopefully next weekend can provide the same type of relaxation so we can find some chairs for said table! Oh and minus the few hours of work, that would be great :)

Earth Tones & Warm Weather

Jacket - Joie (old, want this floral version) // Top - Ann Taylor // Jeans - Forever 21 // Boots - Tibi (on major sale!) // Purse - ZAC Zac Posen (also here) // Necklace - J.Crew (similar) // Shades - Ray-Ban // Watch - O clock

You guys. Today was unbelievable: we hit temperatures above freezing! In fact, we made it all the way to 50 degrees! *ahhhh* But for real, this is a huge deal. You wouldn't believe the number of people that came out of the woodwork to enjoy this nice break in the weather, I think I saw over 25 people running during my 15 minute commute home.

As soon as I made it home I knew I had to do an outfit post, sans winter coat.
Typically I'm a colorful person when it comes to my wardrobe (I'm known at work for wearing lots of colored pants and obnoxious bright neon sweaters), but lately I've been embracing a more neutral, earthy palette. This may be influenced by my new bag pictured above :) It goes great with all colors, but I think it makes its biggest statement with natural hues.

What colors do you tend to wear most? Do you lean towards the classic black/white combo or is your closet as colorful as a rainbow?

Print Mix

Coat - A|Wear (similar) // Turtleneck - J.Crew // Skirt - J.Crew (want this skirt) // Boots - Steven (old, similar here) // Necklace - Baublebar // Shades - Ray-Ban

Running was and is a big part of my life and my family's life. The majority of our family vacations the last 10 years have revolved around cross country and track meets.

How does this relate to a personal style post you ask? Well, my teammates and I were pretty competitive and wanted to be as fast as our abilities allowed, and would say that we wanted to be "cheetah fast", thus we bought every running related item in sight that had what looked to be cheetah print on it: ribbons, hair ties, socks, shorts, you name it we bought it.

This was when leopard was coming back as a popular print and what we took as cheetah was really leopard, but we weren't too technical about it :)

Those days of being The Cheetah Girls (yes, we really did call ourselves that....) are long gone, but my love for all things leopard/cheetah has not left, which is why I had to have this coat as soon as I saw it. Also, I'm excited to announce I will be running the Boston Marathon this spring (eeek!), so I may have to bust out the all cheetah look again. Maybe my Cheetah Girl days aren't behind me after all :)

Studs + Leopard

 Shirt - a.n.a // Jeans - J.Crew Factory // Heels - Valentino // Shades - Illesteva // Purse - Milly // Necklace - Urban Outfitters

I snagged these jeans in a half asleep purchase while perusing online sales and while that may have been an extremely dumb idea, these jeans are quickly becoming a favorite of mine. I could live in them every day they are so comfortable! I have a feeling these will be well worn for quite a while :)

I sized up when buying them since I have larger calves and was expecting these to be a skinny jean, but they haphazardly became the perfect boyfriend jean for my body type! Gotta love spontaneous purchases that work out so even better than anticipated!...not that I should encourage myself from doing it again...like right now ;)

Pattern Play

 Jacket - Mango // Sweater - H&M // Shirt - Tahari // Cords - American Eagle (similar here) // Sunglasses - UO // Bag - Dooney & Bourke (want this bag!) // Flats - Madewell (on sale!)

With our family reunited this week, we thought it would be a great idea to go to our favorite Italian restaurant to celebrate us all being together again for more than just 5 hours. We met up with another family that we are good friends with and enjoyed each other's company and good food! :)

Work has been pretty stress-free the past few days, but taking time to go out and have fun mid-week always makes the rest of the week easier to get through. Maybe if I had strawberry coconut gelato every day I wouldn't have so many worries ;)

Spring Awakening

Monty Python??
Coat - J.Crew (great alternative here) // Sweater - GAP (similar) // Pants - J Brand // Sunglasses - Urban Outfitters (similar) // Shoes - Madewell // Purse - Dooney & Bourke (dream bag here)

It's days like today where I can feel spring is around the corner: the sun was shining, the wind was still and the snow melting, and there were even BIRDS chirping! I cannot wait for weather where I can go for a run in just a t-shirt and shorts instead of layers upon layers. People that know me well also know I'm weirdly obsessed with the couple weeks tree leaves bud and appear. Ahh, spring get here soon! Please :)
