Keeping it Casual

Jacket - H&M (old, love this similar one in white) // Shirt - Max Studio (similar) // Sweater - J.Crew // Pants - J.Crew // Shoes - New Balance // Backpack - Coach // Shades - Ray-Ban

I love dressing up in cute dresses and heels as much as the next girl (except maybe my sisters...they can't stand heels), but there is something to be said about a comfy, laid-back look. I've been loving the  sports luxe trend going on lately and when I spied these black New Balance runners, I knew I had to snatch them up.

Best. Purchase. Ever. These shoes are so comfortable, I never want to take them off. I plan on taking them on my Europe trip in May after learning my lesson last summer just how rough walking all day in unsupportive sandals can be on your feet.  And hopefully since it's trendier to wear sneakers around, I won't look like such a tourist...except my picture taking and shock and awe look on my face might give it away ;) Hey, at least they're not white (which I want as well :) )

Mint + Metallic

Sweater - Ann Taylor (old, love this sweater here) // Skirt - Zara (old, similar) // Purse - J.Crew (like this updated version!) // Heels - J.Crew // Shades - Ray-ban

Fashion websites are forecasting pastels, florals, and metallics to be on trend this spring, so naturally I had to figure out a way to rock them all at the same time. Go big or go home, right? :)

We're still waiting for spring weather here in The Mitten, as you can see by the snow and brownness in my pics, blah. I guess wearing spring colors and florals will have to do for now until the flowers bloom and everything gets pretty again!

Black Out

 Blazer - H&M (similar) // Shirt - Forever 21 (similar) // Pants - Paige Denim // Shoes - Tibi (old, cute alternative here) // Bag - ZAC Zac Posen // Shades - Ray-Ban

Happy Friday everyone!! This week has been tough work wise; all I do is sit at a computer for 10+ hours, but then when I get back to my place all I want to do is sit and do nothing. With Boston Marathon exactly one month away, I need to be making sure I get my butt out the door and run!

I went back home the other night after a long day of work since my sister and roommate were not around (they're nurses and we all work completely different schedules..sometimes we don't see each other for days!). While I was there I was able to take advantage of their availability to snap some pics for Running on Coffee, eat a good home cooked meal, talk outer space and physics with my dad, and run around their neighborhood.

With all the snow we've had the past few months I've mostly stuck to treadmill running, and let me tell you, my legs were in for a rude awakening on that little jaunt. Holy hills, Batman! I may need to start running there every day leading up to Boston...Heartbreak Hill will seem like a bump in the road after training there :)

Happy Vernal Equinox aka SPRING!!!

Buffalo & Baubles

Coat - J.Crew (puffer vest alternative here) // Vest - J.Crew (old, similar here) // Shirt - Vero Moda // Jeans - Rag & Bone // Shoes - J.Crew (on sale) // Bracelet - J.Crew (on sale) // Necklace - J.Crew // Shades - Prada // Purse - ZAC Zac Posen

You know the universe is working in your favor when the weekend has beautiful weather and you have no plans. Okay, I had to go into the office for a few hours and work, but other than that I had nothing stopping me from doing whatever I wanted!

First thing on the list: wake up naturally with no alarm clock scaring me from my slumber. How great of a feeling is that?! Second, enjoy a delicious coconut milk latte before antique shopping with my sister. We found a cute table for our apartment that I am dying to paint yellow :)

Hopefully next weekend can provide the same type of relaxation so we can find some chairs for said table! Oh and minus the few hours of work, that would be great :)

Fall Uniform

Coat - J.Crew // Sweater - Theory // Scarf - Pieces (love this scarf) // Jeans - Rag & Bone // Boots - Lacoste // Purse Dooney & Bourke (similar) // Shades - Ray-Ban

Fall is definitely one of my favorite seasons of the year. Unfortunately for us Michiganders, it does not typically last the 3 months the calendar claims it to be around. I've found the optimal times where you have the beautiful colored leaves, the crisp air, and the gorgeous light only lasts for a few weeks before the cold and gray start to set in.

Luckily for me, fall fashion lasts longer than a few weeks :) With my coat and boot obsession, my wardrobe gets maximized this time of year and the mixing and new combinations seem endless and fun! When I'm in a rush (which is often) and need to put together an outfit quick, I gravitate towards a chunky sweater, scarf, warm coat, and a cute but functional pair of boots. Fast, easy, and looks put together even without putting too much thought into it: my kind of look :)

Western Vibe

 Vest - Denim & Supply // Dress - LOFT (old, similar here) // Shoes - Jeffrey Campbell // Shades - Ray-Ban

Hey y'all! ;)

I thought I'd give a few life updates since it's been a while since I last posted:

- I was offered a promotion! I've really bounced around at work with my jobs in the year that I've been employed with the company. I still love the people and what I do, which I realize for a first job out of college is something I should not take for granted nor forget!

-Speaking of my work and college, it's been one year since I graduated from MSU. Unreal. And I'm approaching my one year anniversary at my current place of employment. Even more unreal.

-My Europe trip is 3 weeks away! I already started planning my outfits ;) I probably should practice packing...

-After way too long of a break, I've begun running again! And holy guacamole, I am out of shape! I'm literally beginning from square one with my running base, which hasn't happened since I had mono 5 years ago! My poor calves did not know what hit them when I ran a hilly 4 mile route Sunday.

-I've been reading a lot lately. My new favorite book: The Sea of Tranquility: A Novel by Katja Millay. Add this to your summer must-read list if it is not on there already! As soon as I finished it, I started re-reading it; I loved it that much.

-My department at work is going for drinks/dinner at a whiskey bar and restaurant tomorrow...think this outfit would work? ;)

Army Green + Hot Pink

 Shirt - Zoa // Jacket - Joie (also here) // Jeans - J Brand // Sandals - J.Crew (similar here) // Watch - Target // Bracelet - H&M // Necklace - Urban Outfitters // Shades - Illesteva

Word to the wise: do not take pictures on a breezy day and expect your hair to cooperate. It will not.

I saw this photo on Stockholm Streetstyle and was inspired to pair army green and hot pink together with my own take on the color combo. The toughness of the green with the vividness and girlyness of the pink is an unexpected color that works well and I can't get enough of it! There is something about mixing the rough and tough with more feminine pieces that makes them complement each other so nicely, it is fun to experiment and find fun, new combinations!

What are some of your favorite combinations of colors or types of clothing that you like to pair together? I'd love to know! :)

Happy almost holiday weekend...T-4 days, we can make it! ;)

Black + White

 Sweater - ASOS // Shirt - Ragstock (similar here) // Leggings - Nike (similar) // Boots - Isabel Marant // Clutch - Target // Shades - Ray-Ban

While I do love this tribal print sweater I am hoping today was the last day of the spring I had to wear it...I just want swimsuit season!

The past few weeks I have been feeling this anticipation bubbling up inside me knowing that Up North cottage season is just around the corner. Our family's cottage is my absolute favorite place in the world and every year I somehow grow more and more fond of it. Since I used most of my vacation days on my big trip I have planned, the trips Up North will be fewer and shorter this year sadly so I have to make the most of every single one!

Our first trip is planned for Memorial weekend and I feel like a little kid counting down the days to Christmas: way.too.excited. Although I may need to keep this sweater out of storage for a little while longer...it snowed Up North on Sunday! Here's to hoping it warms up and fast ;)
