Keeping it Casual

Jacket - H&M (old, love this similar one in white) // Shirt - Max Studio (similar) // Sweater - J.Crew // Pants - J.Crew // Shoes - New Balance // Backpack - Coach // Shades - Ray-Ban

I love dressing up in cute dresses and heels as much as the next girl (except maybe my sisters...they can't stand heels), but there is something to be said about a comfy, laid-back look. I've been loving the  sports luxe trend going on lately and when I spied these black New Balance runners, I knew I had to snatch them up.

Best. Purchase. Ever. These shoes are so comfortable, I never want to take them off. I plan on taking them on my Europe trip in May after learning my lesson last summer just how rough walking all day in unsupportive sandals can be on your feet.  And hopefully since it's trendier to wear sneakers around, I won't look like such a tourist...except my picture taking and shock and awe look on my face might give it away ;) Hey, at least they're not white (which I want as well :) )

Red, White, and Plaid

Jacket - Miss Selfridge // Sweater- Forever 21 (love this one!) // Jeans - 7FAM // Boots - Old Navy (old, similar here) // Hat - J.Crew // Scarf - Local shop // Purse - Coach (vintage, similar option here)

A quick hello from freezing cold Michigan!
(Took these pictures in literally two minutes because 10 degrees in November is just unacceptable. Bring back the forties, Mother Nature!)

This weekend consisted of watching a lot of cross country running (my little sister's team won Div. II Nationals, woohoo!),  drinking tons of coffee to stay warm, fan-girling over Catching Fire, and cleaning in preparation for my aunt and cousins' arrival today.

As much as I love and look forward to eating (and eating, and eating...) all the delicious food on Thanksgiving, my favorite part of the holiday is spending time with my family members who we don't get to see as often as we would like. My cousins, sisters, and I are all very close and it is a guarantee whenever we all get together we are in for a crazy-weird, but awesome time. Perhaps this year we will get The Nacho Band back together for a post-meal performance. And yes, The Nacho Band was a real thing. Our #1 single? Nacho Man (just switch out "nacho" for "macho" in The Macho Man song and you'll get the idea). You know you're jealous of how cool we are :)

Happy Tuesday! Safe travels this holiday!

All Black Everything

Sweater - J.Crew // Skort - Zara // Boots - Isabel Marant // Backpack - Coach // Shades - Ray-Ban

I guess you can say I was a little strange as a child: I used to climb the support pole in our basement and watch tv for hours while hanging up top, I wrote a letter to the Spice Girls asking them to come to me and my neighbor's sleepover, and if you asked me my favorite color when I was 3 years old I would have told you black and that it was the only marker I would use when drawing.

While the answer to that question quickly changed to pink, I've reverted to appreciating the hue and have slowly but surely started adding it in to my wardrobe. It truly is a color that works with everything and is flattering for everyone. Perhaps I wasn't weird so much as a child but a born-to-be aspiring New Yorker with fashion foresight. No, still weird? Ok. :)

Pink & Blue

Jacket - Miss Selfridge // Shirt - Zara (old, similar here and here) // Skirt - J.Crew (similar here) // Boots - Jeffrey Campbell // Purse - Coach (love this one here) // Shades - Ray-Ban

It's safe to say one of my favorite colors is pink: I once was a pink M&M for Halloween, it's my go to lip color, I always picked pink for my bands for braces, I even chose it as the color for my bathroom counter! I was also 5 years old when I made that decision...but still, pink rocks.

Pink is also very versatile in what colors it works with, largely due to the fact it can range anywhere from baby soft to electric neon in hue. I especially love how it pops when paired with royal blue. It makes for a color combo that stands out but not so much that it is in your face.

A cutesy color combo such as this in my opinion works even better when juxtaposed with items like biker jackets or moto boots to play off the feminine details of the outfit. What can I say, biker/moto jackets just make me feel like I can take on anything...except maybe the cold. I may have to break out my winter coats for that and soon, seeing as it is snowed! Ahhh too soon!

Happy Tuesday, stay warm!
(And to those who live in a warm climate, please enjoy it for my cold, pale self)

Red

 Outfit details: Coat - J.Crew // Vest - J.Crew // Turtleneck - J.Crew (on sale!)  // Shirt - J.Crew Factory // Pants - Ralph Lauren // Shoes - Madewell // Sunglasses - Gap // Purse - Coach

Today we made the drive across the state to visit my sisters and watch some track races (of course). While it wasn't anything different than we have been doing the last few weekends, it is always just nice to be with my family. It also didn't hurt that we brought home some Tom's Mom's cookies that were delivered to my sister's apartment! Mmm :) the best cookies money can buy.

You may have also noticed that I updated the layout and design of my blog. I am not the most tech savvy person and am not quite sure if everything looks correctly when I switched over, so please if you see anything weird let me know! :)

Leopard & Leather

Jacket: thrift shop find (similar) // Sweater: Urban Outfitters // Skirt: Urban Outfitters // Tights: Capezio // Booties: Report // Necklace: Unknown (liking this one) // Sunglasses: Marc by Marc Jacobs // Purse: Coach (Similar)

Greetings and Happy (belated) New Year! We spent our Christmas in North Carolina as we do each year and when we arrived back to Michigan we came back to a winter wonderland! While some (aka me) were happier about this than others (aka the rest of my family), I think we all agree that days where the skies are clear and the wind is still are picturesque. I mean, who can be totally upset when they look out the window and see the snow glittering like diamonds? Albeit, it doesn't happen often but when it does it is a beautiful sight!

Operation Overtime

Operation Overtime
I currently work for a mortgage lending company and to say we've been busy would be a huge understatement. Every month it seems we have another month of record-breaking in the number of loans we receive and close. I had been told when I started working we would be able to relax some in the winter since the mortgage business as a whole tends to slow down, but if these last two weeks were any indication then I don't think that will be happening anytime soon.

Due to the amount of work that is piling up, we are encouraged to work overtime as much as we want and can handle. I don't have much else going on in my life right now, so why not work and earn some more? :) I've decided to use the money I make working overtime as a fund to buy the bigger items on my wish list that typically I can't make myself buy because of the price tag. This way these pieces will feel even more special because they are more of a reward.

Some of the items on my big wishlist are shown above and can be found at these sites:

Comfort and Sparkle this Holiday Season

Comfort and Sparkle this Holiday Season

This time of year as the weather turns all I want to wear is big, comfy sweaters and leggings. However, with the holidays there are always events and parties to attend where I still want to look put together but maintain my comfort (and warmth) while looking respectable. The holiday season also makes me want to add a little pizazz into my outfits to keep my spirits bright to match the festivities. Throwing some glitter and sparkle into an ensemble, whether it be something bold like a dress or shorts or subtle like a bracelet or nail polish, always seems to do the trick for me. Here are some of the things I'm liking as of late that would be nice for these upcoming months of cold weather, holiday parties, and a plate with a frenchie to make me smile when I'm missing the warm weather :)
