Prints X Purple

Dress- Obey | Sweater - Max Studio (similar) | Shoes - Tahari (nearly identical pair here) | Purse - J.Crew (old, love this mini bucket bag!) | Shades - Ray-Ban

Lately you can find me oftentimes in soft colors and flowy pieces. As Michigan is surrounded 3/4 by water, we have very humid summers where too many layers means within 15 minutes of being outside, you are going to be drenched and your clothes sticking to your skin.

The airiness of this dress and sweater (to keep the sun off my shoulders and the rest of the time around my waist because you know, it's hot) feels so apt for the season and there is nothing better than being comfortable when dressing up!

What pieces do you gravitate towards in warmer weather?

Ripped Denim x Neon

Top - Forever 21 (old, very similar option here) | Cami - J.Crew Factory (on sale!) | Jeans - AG Adriano Goldschmied | Shoes - J.Crew (old, cute pair here) | Clutch - J.Crew Factory (love this option) | Shades - Ray-Ban

I wore this outfit to a Cinco de Mayo party a few weeks ago and had to recycle it again this weekend. It's finally summer weather and while I love my neutrals (I sometimes wonder if gray is my favorite color), I can't resist a look with a good pop of color!

I had accidentally shrunk the top (I'm apparently still learning how to do laundry) and it had been sitting in my closet pretty much since I wore it on my Italy trip (post here). Luckily, crop tops are in now and I don't feel as silly wearing it out and about. I layered it with a cami that perfectly matched the embroidery for a weekend gathering to be a little more family friendly.

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend with family and friends!

Side story: I thought this shirt was ruined at the Cinco party after a whole glass of red sangria spilled on my back (risks of taking group photos at a party centered around tequila I guess ;) ). By some miracle I managed to get the entire thing out! It may be shrunk, but it isn't stained :)

Gingham x Leather

Dress - Marc by Marc Jacobs | Jacket - Miss Selfridge (similar) | Heels - Madewell (cute alternate here!) | Shades - Banana Republic (love these) | Clutch - J.Crew Factory | Pearls - Graduation Gift, options available here

I scooped up this dress during an online sale a little while ago and had been patiently waiting for the change to wear it out. The style and pink gingham pattern are so feminine and I officially fell in love when I noticed its little details (bow in the back and there's actually a cellphone pocket in the front!).

 Happy MDW, everyone!

PSA: With all the activities on Memorial Day happening, remember to apply sunscreen! I learned my lesson yesterday when I forgot to put some on for a track meet where I sat in the sun all day. Needless to say, I'm pretty pink and sore (as you can see in some of these pictures). I'm taking this experience as a sign I need to invest in a cute sun hat :)

Flower Child

Jacket - Mango (old) | Dress - Somedays Lovin | Shoes - Jeffrey Campbell (similar on sale here!) | Purse - J.Crew (old, cute alternative here) | Shades - Prada

I don't know about you, but I love my sleep. Most mornings I hit my snooze button for an hour (anyone who has ever had to share a room with me knows this all too well), only to wake up 15 minutes before I'm supposed to leave, grabbing anything in sight and running out the door.

Now that Michigan is starting to thaw out, maxi dresses are the perfect solution for my fifteen minute power prep. They are simple, chic, and give off the appearance that you took the time to put yourself together, when you secretly know you literally got ready in five minutes.

Maxi dresses may be reinforcing my bad habits, but hey, they are cute and if I can get an extra thirty minutes of Zzz's, then that's fine by me:)

Happy Memorial Day weekend!

Studs + Florals

Dress - Darling (old, have my eye on this one next) | Shoes - Valentino | Clutch - J.Crew Factory (old, similar) | Jacket - Bar III (cute version here) | Shades - Ray-Ban

I picked this dress up a couple summers ago at London's Topshop and it has been sitting pretty (pun intended) in my closet ever since. I had been saving it for a special occasion, like a wedding or something of that nature, but as the perfect opportunity never seem to arise I decided it was too nice to just sit around and wore it out for a casual evening with my sister. I'm the person in my family where it would be no surprise to anyone if I showed up to a barbecue wearing a ballgown, so this wasn't too out of the ordinary for me :)

We spent the evening walking around the local university's campus talking and taking pictures, and as the night went on I realized this might not have been a wedding, but it was still a pretty special occasion in its own way. My little sister and I don't get many opportunities to spend much time together with her at school most of the year and me working full-time, so a night just between the two of us is a rare event. Definitely ballgown-worthy :)

p.s. Enjoy my awkward tan-lines! I got sunburnt at a softball game a couple weeks ago, but only the parts of my body exposed to the sun hitting them from the left leaving me looking like Harvey Dent aka half-tanned face with a super tan left arm and a tan right inner forearm, but pale outside right arm!

Lately

I am slowly waking up from my winter hibernation!

A couple weeks ago, I received an email from a coworker inviting me to be a part of her Spring Fashion Face-Off she was beginning in May.

Now, mind you, we had another bitter cold winter and I had fallen into a slump of rotating through the same jeans and sweaters week in and out. When I read her invitation stating "be prepared to show those toes!", my fashion blogger side came alive and was ready to take on the challenge :)

It was so much fun every night having to rummage through my clothes, trying to come up with new outfits I had never worn to work. It made me realize how much this blog and dressing up serves as an outlet for me to channel my creative side, which my work does not provide (when you're dealing with people's commissions and federal regulations, there isn't much room for creativity), which is why I plan on reviving Running on Coffee and putting in a much stronger effort to be consistent.

In the meantime as I build some content for my page, enjoy some pictures from the last few months. I was lucky enough to visit Nashville, Alabama, New England, and enjoy the great places right in my own backyard.

Happy Mother's Day!
(Side story, someone thought my sister was my mom today at our Mother's Day brunch and told me my time would come soon -_- the rest of my family, including my mom and grandma, found this very amusing)

Burgundy + Leopard

Sweater - J.Crew (similar) // Skirt - Urban Outfitters (similar here and here) // Boots - Stuart Weitzman // Purse - ZAC Zac Posen // Shades - Ray-ban

Well well well, it's been quite some time since I posted or even looked at my own blog. It's something I've thought about often but didn't have the inspiration or motivation to move forward with actively posting. Call it blogger's block if you will, but whenever I thought of something that might be potential blog material, there was this voice in the back of my mind saying "no, that's not good enough". So there it sat in internet oblivion, collecting electronic dust.

And then fall showed up.

There are many things I love about living in Michigan, with fall being near the top of my list. The clear blue skies, the changing leaves, the crisp air. It was this past weekend on a particularly beautiful day where I finally felt inspired again. For those of you who do not experience a Midwest fall, believe me when I say the air is different this time of year, and you can practically feel the change blowing past you. Whenever this happens I get this feeling of excitement and anticipation inside me, for unknown things to come. It's somewhat unexplainable but there truly is this buzzing energy that cannot be ignored and it was this that brought me out of my blogging rut.

It'll probably be baby steps getting back into the routine of posting, but I can't wait to get into the swing of things and channel my inner creativity into something. So hello, Internet friends. It's lovely to see you again :)

XOXO
-Meagan-
